Training on how to use forest fire fighting support software within the framework of the MKCF project.

On January 16, 2025, within the framework of the AFoCO-funded project: Application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in forest fire management and climate change adaptation in Vietnam and Cambodia. In his role as national coordinator, Dr. Bui Manh Hung conducted training on software supporting the forest fire fighting process and its components at the Forest Protection Department of Region I. The training was successful.

Assist Korean experts in installing fire detection stations and forest fire management software.

From January 13-15, 2025, within the framework of the project funded by AFoCO: Application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in forest fire management and climate change adaptation in Vietnam and Cambodia. The Korean expert team installed equipment such as meteorological stations, forest fire fighting support software... at the operation room of the Forest Protection Department of Region I. The installation and setup process was successful with Dr. Hung support.

Exchange of experiences, scientific research, training and international cooperation with staff of Mindanao University, Philippines.

From November 12 to November 17, in the spirit of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of Vietnam National University of Forestry, the University invited officials from Mindanao University, Philippines to attend the workshop, sign cooperation agreements and exchange cooperation. Asso.Prof.Dr. Hung Bui was in charge of the delegation and had some professional exchanges, cooperation in training and scientific research with officials from the Philippines during the delegation's stay at the University. Hopefully, we will have more specific cooperation in the future.

Presentation at international conference: green and digital transformation in the Forestry sector.

On November 15, in the atmosphere of the 60th anniversary celebration of Vietnam National University of Forestry, the Faculty of Forest Resources and Environmental Management, together with the University of Tokyo, organized an international conference entitled: Green and digital transformation in the field of Forestry. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Manh Hung also presented at the conference entitled: Forest structure, carbon stock and biodiversity: a successful restoration story in Luot mountain. Scientists listened and discussed the contents of the topic such as formation history, forest stand characteristics, frequency distribution modeling, correlation structure, quality structure, biodiversity in Luot Mountain...

Monthly meeting between Vietnam and Cambodia coordinators with AFoCO.

On October 18, AFoCO held a monthly meeting with the coordinators of the project: Application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in forest fire management and climate change adaptation in Vietnam and Cambodia. On the Vietnamese side, Assoc. Prof. Bui Manh Hung attended as the project coordinator in Vietnam. During the meeting, the parties discussed the results and activities that have been completed, and the implementation plan for the coming time. Specifically, in the coming time, on the Vietnamese side, it will be necessary to complete activities such as the forest protection plan (activity B3), prepare information for the construction of the Poster for the workshop in Thailand on November 22. At the same time, prepare reports and personnel to attend the workshop in Seoul at the end of November.

Presenting at international conferences "Forest ecosystems in the conditions of climate change: biological productivity and remote sensing".

During the days from 16/10-17/10/24, MSc. Ho Thu Phuong and Asso.Prof. Bui Manh Hung participated in the international workshop on forest ecosystems in the context of climate change and the application of remote sensing and GIS technology. The workshop had the participation of scientists from countries such as Russia, China, Vietnam, Sweden ... The group presented with the topic: Applying GIS and remote sensing to determine potential distribution areas of turtle in Nam Dong natural reserve, Thanh Hoa province. The workshop was successful.

Participate in the master's thesis defense committees, tropical forestry master program, training in English.

The tropical forestry master program is a training program entirely in English. This is a good program for those who want to work in the fields of forestry, forest protection, natural resource management ... The program has trained many students from different countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Pakistan, Myanmar, Indonesia ... On September 5, 2024, teacher Hung participated in the thesis defense committees of master students. They defended and received good marks for their master's theses and graduated from the training program.

Having cooperation and making contributions to INTI international University, Malaysia.

Over the past year, Asso.Prof.Dr. Hung Bui has contributed and collaborated with INTI International University in Malaysia, especially the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. Asso.Prof.Dr. Hung has contributed ideas and collaborated in publishing with lecturers at INTI, especially Professor Shiou Yih Lee. He also participated in providing some online lectures on multivariate data analysis for students of the university. Dr. Hung's contributions have been recognized and thanked by INTI, and the two sides are working towards deeper cooperation in the future.

Congratulations to Pervez Ahmad Khan, a graduate student of Vietnam National University of Forestry on two international publications.

Pervez Ahmad Khan was a graduate student of Vietnam National University of Forestry. After graduating, he continued his career in teaching and researching forestry in Pakistan. With the support of Asso. Prof. Dr. Manh Hung Bui, Khan have published 2 international manuscripts titled:

- Key factors influencing tree planting decision of farmers on farm land: A case study in Malakand, Pakistan.

- Assessing the biomass and carbon productivity of pure Pinus willachiana forest in Kumrat valley, Pakistan.

The manuscripts are published on ISI journals and they are very meaningful for forestry science and life.

Participated in a committee to assess a project: Research and evaluation of ecosystem services for biodiversity conservation and rational use of natural resources at Bai Tu Long National Park, Quang Ninh province.

On July 2, 2024, Associate Professor, PhD. Bui Manh Hung attended the committee to evaluate the project: Research and evaluation of ecosystem services for biodiversity conservation and reasonable use of natural resources at Bai Tu Long National Park, Quang Ninh province in Vietnam - Russia tropical center. As reviewer 1, Asso. Prof. Hung gave the research team valuable comments on how to improve the proposal better and detail map construction methods, especially potential maps and above-ground biomass investigation methods, support for international and domestic publications ... Carry out consulting activities on data analysis for an economic project in Latvia

Within the framework of the project to evaluate the demand for imported rice from different countries in Latvia, Dr. Bui Manh Hung participated in independent consulting activities for the project with tasks of advising on data analysis techniques to analyze the situation of using rice from different imported sources in Latvia. Dr. Hung has advised on performing many analyzes such as descriptive statistics, creating statistical tables and charts from simple to complex ones, performing modeling to predict future rice volumes, and many other complex analyses to answer the project's research questions in a quantitative and convincing ways.

Carry out consulting activities on data analysis for a forest restoration project in Ca Mau

Within the framework of a forest restoration assessment project in Ca Mau, Dr. Bui Manh Hung participated in independent consulting activities for the project with tasks of advising on data analysis techniques to understand forest restoration capacity after fires in the study area. Dr. Hung has advised on performing many analyzes such as descriptvie statistics, modeling the diameter and height distribution with 20 tested theoretical distributions, and regression correlation analysis. with 30 tested functions... The project has been unanimously approved and evaluated well.

Supervise and participate the thesis defense committee of advanced program students

Within the framework of the advanced training program in Resource Management (Study in English) of the Vietnam National University of Forestry. Recently, Dr. Bui Manh Hung participated in supervising Le Thao Van with the topic: QUANTIFICATION OF CHANGES IN ABOVE-GROUND CARBON STOCKS OF MANGROVE FORESTS DURING 2017 - 2023 ALONG THE COAST OF QUANG YEN TOWN, QUANG NINH PROVINCE .

The student defended his thesis on December 9, 2023 and achieved excellent results. Students along with Dr. Hung published an international manuscript with the title: CARBON STOCK CHANGES IN MANGROVE OVER PERIODS IN QUANG YEN TOWN, QUANG NINH PROVINCE.

Teaching Indian students about forest inventory and data analysis.

Within the student exchange program between Vietnam National University of Forestry and Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of India, from November 28 to December 1, Dr. Bui Manh Hung delivered lectures for Indian students about forest inventory and forestry data analysis.

The main contents of the course were to measuring diameter and height of single trees, practicing measurements in the forest, then analyzing the data to learn about structural characteristics and forest carbon stocks and biomass storage.
